Dennis Redmont takes a picture of the state of the profession of journalist in the web 2.0 era in his contribution on the magazine “Aspenia Web 2.0: Potere e Libertà” – on sale since October 24th 2011. How does the role of journalists change within the new web platforms? How do they adapt their activities to new technologies? And how does the same idea of ‘editorial board’ evolve?
Journalism is no longer an economically rewarding job, at least for what the large-scale journalism of old editorial boards is concerned. All those brand-new types of journalism – such as on-demand and do-it-yourself journalism, or the use of anonymous sources and false identities – raise up one big question: is ‘real’ journalism dead? Are thus journalists a vanishing species? Absolutely not. Actually, a good journalist’s key is a constant application of standard rules. Essential and timeless rules. True journalists will continue to be clearly heard among the mass of voices coming from the web.
Dennis Redmont nel suo contributo alla rivista “Aspenia Web 2.0: Potere e Libertà”- in uscita il prossimo 24 Ottobre 2011- fa una radiografia sullo stato della professione giornalistica nell’era del Web 2.0. Come cambia il ruolo di un giornalista nelle nuove piattaforme del web, come si svolge l’attività lavorativa adeguandosi alle nuove tecnologie, come si evolve il concetto stesso di redazione.
Il giornalismo, almeno quello su vasta scala delle vecchie redazioni, non è più una professione economicamente remunerativa. Fra giornalismo on demand, giornalismo fai da te, fonti anonime, false identità, la domanda è una sola: la professione giornalistica è morta? I giornalisti sono insomma una specie in via di estinzione? Assolutamente no. Infatti, il segreto di un bravo giornalista sta nella costante applicazione di regole standard, imprescindibili e intramontabili. I veri giornalisti continueranno a farsi sentire nella marea di voci del web.

Interviewed on the La7 show Coffee Break, Dennis Redmont said the clearing of the conviction of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito of the murder of English student Meredith Kercher in Perugia in November 2007, produces losers all around–the media, Italian justice and the families themselves.

On the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers, Dennis Redmont asks: what has changed?
In an interview with Sky TG24 on the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the twin towers, Dennis Redmont gave his analysis of the consequences of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
Despite the ongoing war in Afghanistan, the West feels safer after the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. But has the threat of international terrorism truly gone away?
Redmont explained that though there are still active terrorist cells in existence, the threat they pose has diminished. After the bombings in Madrid and London there have been no verified attempts to launch terrorist attacks in the West: this in itself shows that the level of security is much higher than in previous years.
He concluded that attention should now be focused not on the threat of international terrorism but on the problem of a world economy in crisis.

Dennis Redmont, intervistato da Sky TG24, fornisce il suo punto di vista sulle conseguenze e gli strascichi dell’ 11 settembre 2001 in occasione del decimo anniversario del tragico attacco terroristico.
Nonostante la guerra ancora in corso in Afghanistan, dopo la morte del leader di Al-Quaeda Bin Laden l’Occidente sembra sentirsi maggiormente al sicuro; ma la minaccia terroristica è stata davvero sconfitta?
Redmont sostiene che – nonostante vi siano tuttora cellule terroristiche molto attive – la minaccia sembra essere diminuita: dopo Madrid e Londra non si sono più verificati attentati e ciò dimostra che il livello di sicurezza è molto più alto rispetto agli anni passati.
Aggiunge, inoltre, che ciò su cui è davvero necessario focalizzare l’attenzione ora come ora non è più il terrorismo internazionale, bensì i problemi di un’economia mondiale in forte crisi.

R. – Per l’americano medio – e su questo io personalmente penso che si giocherà l’elezione del 2012 – è l’impiego. Se si guarda il tasso di disoccupazione in America a giugno è del 9,2 per cento: di solito in America si dice che ci vuole un tasso del 5 o 6 per cento per stare bene. Perciò il vero problema in America è l’alta disoccupazione.
D. – Nel sistema americano quando ci si trova di fronte a una così forte contrapposizione a un certo punto il presidente può forzare il sistema?
R. – Il presidente ha il famoso diritto di veto e perciò ci sono due soluzioni, quella dei repubblicani contrapposta a quella dei democratici. Se quella dei repubblicani arriva al suo tavolo lui potrebbe porre il veto e a questo punto il governo potrebbe decidere per esempio di non pagare i salari per adesso, o non assolvere alcuni impegni che ha il governo. Questo tipo di confronto non è senza precedenti, però per la prima volta gli americani si rendono conto che il dollaro è debole.
D. – Cosa potrebbe accadere all’interno degli Stati Uniti se non si arrivasse a una soluzione entro il 2 agosto?
R. – Molta gente potrebbe dire: io non mi fido dei buoni del tesoro perciò li riscuoto. Oppure potrebbe esserci un modo selettivo di tagliare certe spese: lavori non essenziali, etc. Alla fine si arriverà a un compromesso ma il problema è: il compromesso sarà temporaneo, fino al 2012, o una cosa che duri 10 anni?
D. – Quindi in sostanza possiamo dire: nessuno lascerà che l’America vada a fondo da un punto di vista economico ma i conti su tutta questa situazione verranno fatti alle prossime presidenziali?
R. – Probabilmente sì.

US President Barack Obama has announced his intention to run for re-election.
Dennis Redmont was interviewed about the development on Radio Vaticana.
The big question was, “Who dares take him on?” In Redmont’s view, Obama’s chances for reelection are good, but external factors continue to effect the polls. Issues like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and now Libya, and not least the state of the world economy, will continue to have unpredictable effect up until the vote in November 2012.
The annoucement of the reelection campaign came via a web clip sent to supporters on social networking sites, and posted on Obama’s official website, www.barackobama.com.

Dennis Redmont was invited to speak on the USA’s midterm elections of 2 November on La 7’s Omnibus. The result should be understood as a semi-defeat for Obama, who maintained a slight majority in the Senate, while losing the seat majority in the House of Representatives.
“The United States have found themselves in the midst of a permanent election campaign. The so-called ‘Obama referendum’ has been a protest against the serious economic crisis threatening America, rather than a lack of confirmation of the president’s mandate. Obama’s reaction should be to shuffle out some new faces, such as the emerging Rahm Emanuel, and to keep on reminding the country of the small but important successes his government has achieved.”

Dennis Redmont, ospite alla trasmissione Omnibus di La 7, commenta le elezioni di meta’ mandato del 2 Novembre. Una sconfitta a meta’ quella del Presidente Obama che mantiene una esigua maggioranza in Senato perdendo la maggioranza dei seggi alla Camera.
“Gli Stati Uniti si trovano in campagna elettorale permanente, il “referendum su Obama” e’ stato piuttosto una protesta alla grave crisi economica in cui versa l’America che una mancata conferma del mandato presidenziale. La reazione di Obama dovrebbe essere quella di puntare i riflettori sui volti nuovi, facendo uscire volti gia’ visti -come quello di Rahm Emanuel- e raccontando i piccoli grandi successi del suo governo” .
