On the 28th of November 2019, the Museo Nacional de Arte Antiga of Lisbon opened to the public an exhibit on the Portuguese painter Alvaro Pirez, who painted between 1410 and 1434. The painter lived many years in Italy and in particular in Tuscany during the Renaissance period and was confronted with artists such as Beato Angelico and Gentile da Fabriano.
The exhibit, for which Dennis Redmont has collaborated and which will end in March 2020, hosts works from Italy and Tuscany, similar to many sublime European museums such as the Louvre and the Berlin’s Gemalde Galerie. With more than 100 works from Italy, this is the most ambitious exhibit of Italian art organized in Portugal.
It is a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to show the intense relations between Italy and Portugal, especially in the artistic field.

Il 28 novembre 2019, al Museo Nacional de Arte Antiga a Lisbona, è stata aperta al pubblico una mostra sul pittore portoghese Alvaro Pirez che dipinse tra il 1410 e il 1434. Il pittore ha vissuto molti anni in Italia e in particolare in Toscana durante il periodo del Rinascimento e si è confrontato con artisti del calibro di Beato Angelico e Gentile da Fabriano.
L’esposizione, alla quale Dennis Redmont ha collaborato e che si concluderà nel marzo 2020, accoglie opere dall’ Italia e dalla Toscana, similmente a tanti musei europei eccelsi come il Louvre e il Gemalde Galerie di Berlino. Con più di 100 opere provenienti dall’ Italia, è la più ambiziosa mostra d’arte italiana organizzata in Portogallo.
Un’occasione unica ed irrepetibile per mostrare le intense relazioni fra Italia e Portogallo, soprattutto in campo artistico.

Em 28 de Novembro de 2019, no Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, em Lisboa, abriu ao público uma exposição do pintor português Álvaro Pires, que pintou entre 1410 e 1434. O pintor viveu muitos anos em Itália, e em particular na Toscana, durante o período do Renascimento e competiu com artistas do calibre de Beato Angelico e Gentile da Fabriano.
A exposição, na qual colaborou Dennis Redmont, e que terminará em Março de 2020, acolhe obras de Itália e da Toscana, semelhante a tantos excelentes museus europeus, tais como o Louvre e o Gemäldegalerie de Berlim. Com mais de 100 obras, provenientes de Itália, é a mais ambiciosa exposição de arte italiana organizada em Portugal.
Uma ocasião única e irrepetível para mostrar as intensas relações entre Itália e Portugal, sobretudo no campo artístico.

Floods always trigger the blame game as today in Italy.
Under Portugal’s dictatorship in 1967, censors “froze” the number of victims at 200. Witnesses like Dennis Redmont reported that the real figure was twice as high as it is discovered 50 years later in a tell-all exhibit, held on Saturday the 30th of November 2019 at Vila Franca de Xira, in Portugal.
Apart from a big photo exhibit (some from Life magazine), there have been lots of testimonials with videos and a play.

Durante la dittatura portoghese del 1967, la censura “congelò” il bilancio delle vittime a 200. Solo 50 anni dopo, il numero reale di morti, che Dennis Redmont riportò già ai tempi, è stato condiviso in una mostra rivelatrice, tenutasi il 30 Novembre 2019 a Vila Franca de Xira, in Portogallo.
Oltre ad una grande mostra fotografica (alcune parte della rivista Life), ci sono state molte testimonianze con video e uno spettacolo teatrale.

As inundações, tal como atualmente em Itália, desencadeiam sempre o jogo das culpas.
Durante a ditadura portuguesa, em 1967, a censura “congelou” o balança das vítimas em 200. Somente 50 anos depois, o número real de mortos, que já na altura Dennis Redmont tinha referido, foi partilhado numa exposição reveladora, realizada em 30 de Novembro de 2019, em Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal.
Para além de uma grande exposição fotográfica (algumas recolhidas da revista Life), existem muitos testemunhos com vídeo e um espetáculo teatral.

After almost a year of success in terms of viewership and critical acclaim, the icing on the cake for the widely praised 13-episode docu-drama “Tres Mulheres” comes straight from the Cinema São Jorge, in Lisbon, where Protugal’s most prestigious media award festival – the Trofeus Impala de Televisão – took place Sunday September 8 2019.
The Portuguese series, created by the production company David & Golias, wins the award for best TV series of the year, which was received by the director, Fernando Vendrell.
“Tres Mulheres” revisits Portugal’s historical framework of the early ’60s under Salazar’s dictatorial regime and narrates the war against censorship fought by Dennis Redmont in his role as foreign correspondent (interpreted by Simão Cayatte) along with three true heroines and leading cultural figures: Natalia Correia, Snu Abecassis and Vera Lagoa.

Dopo quasi un anno di successi in termini di audience e critica, la ciliegina sulla torta per l’ampiamente acclamato docu-drama di 13 episodi “Tres Mulheres” arriva direttamente dal Cinema São Jorge a Lisbona, dove il più prestigioso premio televisivo portoghese – il Trofeus Impala de Televisão – ha avuto luogo domenica 8 settembre 2019.
La serie portoghese, creata dalla casa di produzione David & Golias, si aggiudica il premio di miglior serie televisiva dell’anno, il quale è stato ritirato dal regista, Fernando Vendrell.
“Tres Mulheres” rivisita il regime dittatoriale di Salazar in Portogallo dei primi anni ’60 e racconta la guerra contro la censura intrapresa da Dennnis Redmont nel suo ruolo di corrispondente dell’Associated Press (interpretato da Simão Cayatte) insieme a tre autentiche eroine e figure culturali di grande spicco: Natalia Correia, Snu Abecassis and Vera Lagoa.

Dennis Redmont is guest columnist for Portuguese leading weekly Expresso: the article analyzes the role of Italy’s trash TV and the advent of populism, which spread like wildfire within the country’s political frame in the past few years.
The blame game is not as clear and simple as it appears to be. The “wild west” private TV and transformation by Silvio Berlusconi remains a superficial explanation.
A stagnant economy, a suffering educational system and a demography making it one of the oldest countries in the world can be found at the root of the problem.

Ospite del settimanale Expresso, il più importante in Portogallo, Dennis Redmont analizza il delicato problema della TV italiana “da quattro soldi” e quanto questa abbia effettivamente provocato l’eruzione del populismo nel paese.
Il gioco dello scaricabarile non è così chiaro e semplice come sembra. Incolpare il “far west” della TV privata e la trasformazione conseguita da Silvio Berlusconi rimane una motivazione superficiale.
I veri pilastri alla base del problema sono invece altri: un’economia stagnante, un sistema d’istruzione precario e una demografia che la rende uno dei paesi più “vecchi” al mondo.

Interviewed by the leading Portuguese newspaper, Diario de Noticias, Dennis Redmont runs through his extensive and eventful memory to revisit the oppressive years of Salazar’s regime in the ‘60s in Portugal.
Censorship pervaded society, as both national and foreign journalists and publishers were constantly monitored and frequently badgered by the PIDE, the International and State Political Police. The media landscape within Portuguese borders was controlled by the government, so the only way accurate news could circulate was through foreign news platforms. “Pereira Maintains”, the renowned novel written by Antonio Tabucchi, perfectly illustrates the atmosphere experienced by Redmont.
As a young correspondent of the Associated Press, Dennis Redmont reported many gloomy stories on Portugal’s national and foreign affairs, which were carried in newspapers such as Le Monde, The Times and The New York Times. The Portuguese regime did not bite the bullet.

Intervistato dal più importante giornale Portoghese, Diario de Noticias, Dennis Redmont si affida alla sua voluminosa e movimentata memoria per ripercorrere gli anni oppressivi del regime portoghese di Salazar negli anni ’60.
In quel contesto storico, la censura in Portogallo era onnipresente, con giornalisti nazionali ed internazionali che venivano costantemente monitorati e frequentemente tormentati dal PIDE, la Polizia Internazionale e di Sicurezza dello Stato. Il panorama mediatico nazionale era controllato dal governo, pertanto l’unico modo in cui potevano circolare notizie attendibili era attraverso piattaforme mediatiche internazionali. “Sostiene Pereira”, il rinomato romanzo di Antonio Tabucchi, illustra perfettamente l’atmosfera vissuta da Redmont.
In veste di giovane corrispondente dell’Associated Press, Dennis Redmont riportò molte storie cupe sugli affari nazionali ed internazionali del Portogallo, che poi vennero pubblicate su numerosi giornali, tra cui Le Monde, il Times e il New York Times. Il regime portoghese non ingoiò il rospo.

O panorama mediático nacional era controlado pelo governo, portanto, o único modo em que podiam circular notícias atendíveis era através de plataformas mediáticas internacionais. “Afirma Pereira”, o famoso romance de Antonio Tabucchi, ilustra perfeitamente a atmosfera vivida por Redmont.
Na veste de jovem correspondente da Associated Press, Dennis Redmont narrou muitas histórias sombrias acerca de negócios nacionais e internacionais de Portugal, que depois foram publicadas em numerosos jornais, entre os quais o Le Monde, o Times e o New York Times. O regime português não “engoliu o sapo”.

The Council for the United States and Italy organized on April 10 a rare and high-level event in Rome at the Italian Embassy to the Holy See for its Young Leaders Alumni.
The event revolved around the topic of meritocracy and its intricate nuances.
Arranged by the Young Leaders Alumnus veteran Pietro Sebastiani (Italian Ambassador to the Holy See), the theme was moderated by Dennis Redmont and examined by specialists Roger Abravanel (Author, “Aristocrazia 2.0”), Jeffrey Hedberg (CEO, Wind Tre) and Sister Alessandra Smerilli (Full Professor, PFSE Auxilium of Rome).

Il consiglio per gli Stati Uniti e l’Italia ha organizzato il 10 aprile un evento raro e d’alto livello a Roma all’Ambasciata Italiana presso la Santa Sede per i suoi Young Leaders Alumni.
Il tema dell’evento è stato la meritocrazia e le sue mille sfumature.
Organizzato dal veterano Young Leaders Alumnus Pietro Sebastiani (Ambasciatore Italiano presso la Santa Sede), il tema è stato moderato da Dennis Redmont ed esaminato dagli esperti in materia Roger Abravanel (Autore, “Aristocrazia 2.0”), Jeffrey Hedberg (CEO, Wind Tre) e Sorella Alessandra Smerilli (Professore Ordinario, PFSE Auxilium di Roma).

On Friday April 5, Dennis Redmont took part to the award ceremony of “Stories on Umbria”, an event held at the International Journalism Festival of Perugia wherein the best national and foreign stories on Umbria’s cultural heritage have been rewarded.
The contest is organized by the Chambers of Commerce of Perugia and Terni.
Redmont himself, alongside the president of the jury Bruno Gambacorta, conducted the prize-giving, which took place at the Centro Servizi Galeazzo Alessi, in Via Mazzini at 12 pm.
The prestigious winners include Carmen Del Vando, Paolo Notari, John Henderson and many others.

Venerdì 5 Aprile, Dennis Redmont ha partecipato alla premiazione di “Raccontami l’Umbria”, un evento del Festival Internazionale del Giornalismo in cui sono stati premiati i migliori servizi nazionali e internazionali riguardanti il patrimonio culturale dell’Umbria.
Il concorso è stato organizzato dalle Camere di Commercio di Perugia e Terni.
Redmont in persona, insieme al presidente della giuria Bruno Gambacorta, ha condotto la premiazione, che ha avuto luogo al Centro Servizi Galeazzo Alessi di Via Mazzini alle 12.
Tra i prestigiosi vincitori troviamo Carmen Del Vando, Paolo Notari John Henderson e molti altri.
